Why Celebrate Our Stars?

On October 3, Safari West will host Celebrate Our Stars, our first fundraising event benefiting the Safari West Zoological Society. As we prepare for this special evening honoring the remarkable animals who call Safari West home, we thought it was the perfect opportunity to share why events like this—and your support—matter.
If you’ve ever visited Safari West, chances are you’ve left with a memory you’ll never forget.
Perhaps it was standing eye-to-eye with a giraffe. Watching a cheetah move across the savanna. Hearing the sounds of wildlife from your tent as the sun set over Sonoma County. Or simply sharing an experience with family and friends that felt both exciting and meaningful.

What many people don’t realize is that those moments are part of something much larger.
For more than three decades, Safari West has connected people with wildlife in ways that inspire curiosity, understanding, and respect for the natural world. Every safari, overnight stay, animal encounter, and educational experience helps create a connection between people and animals—because conservation begins with caring, and caring begins with connection.
That connection has never been more important.
In a world where people are becoming increasingly disconnected from nature, Safari West provides an opportunity to slow down, experience wildlife up close, and gain a deeper appreciation for the animals that share our planet.
At the heart of those experiences are nearly 1,000 animals representing more than 80 species. They are cared for by an extraordinary team of Animal Care Givers, veterinarians, educators, and support staff who dedicate themselves each day to ensuring the animals thrive.
Their work extends far beyond what guests see during a visit. It includes specialized nutrition, enrichment programs, veterinary care, habitat maintenance, conservation efforts, and educational programs that reach people of all ages.
Today, through the Safari West Zoological Society, we are building upon that foundation by creating a nonprofit future for Safari West.
Our goal is simple: to ensure that the animals who call Safari West home continue to receive exceptional care, that future generations have opportunities to connect with wildlife, and that Safari West remains a place where conservation, education, and community come together.
Admissions, safaris, lodging, and guest experiences remain an important part of supporting that work. But charitable donations help us do even more. They help us expand educational opportunities, strengthen conservation efforts, enhance animal care programs, and continue sharing these remarkable animals with our community.
Most importantly, charitable donations help us build a lasting legacy—a future where the animals who call Safari West home continue to inspire, educate, and connect generations to come.
If Safari West has ever inspired you, taught you something new, brought your family closer together, or helped you feel a deeper connection to wildlife, we invite you to become part of that legacy.
As a nonprofit organization, donations now play an important role in helping us expand educational opportunities, strengthen conservation efforts, enhance animal care programs, and continue sharing these remarkable animals with our community.

Because every visit matters.
And every gift matters.
One of the ways we’ll be celebrating that future is through Celebrate Our Stars, our first fundraising event benefiting the Safari West Zoological Society.
On October 3, we will gather to honor the remarkable animals who inspire us every day, the dedicated Animal Care Givers who support them, and the future of Safari West itself.
We hope you’ll join us as we celebrate the animals, the mission, and the lasting impact we can make together.
