Why We Matter

Share

Every morning at Safari West begins long before the first guest arrives.

Animal Care Givers prepare specialized diets, veterinarians monitor the health of nearly 1,000 animals, habitats are maintained, enrichment activities encourage natural behaviors, and conservation work continues quietly behind the scenes. By the time our gates open, an extraordinary amount of care has already taken place.

For more than three decades, Safari West has been much more than a place to see wildlife.

It is home to endangered and threatened species. It is a center for education, conservation, and animal care. It is where children discover a lifelong passion for wildlife, where families create unforgettable memories, and where every visit helps inspire a greater appreciation for the natural world.

Celebrate our stars, the animals of Safari West

Every animal here has a story.

Some are ambassadors for species facing uncertain futures. Others are part of carefully managed conservation breeding programs that help protect genetic diversity for generations to come. Every birth, every veterinary procedure, every enrichment activity, and every educational encounter represents a commitment to giving wildlife a future.

Conservation doesn’t happen by accident.

It requires dedicated Animal Care Givers, veterinarians, educators, researchers, specialized habitats, medical equipment, nutrition, and ongoing support every single day of the year. While admission helps provide for daily operations, there are countless opportunities to do more—for the animals, for education, and for the future of conservation.

That is why the Safari West Zoological Society was created.

As a nonprofit organization, the Society helps expand conservation initiatives, educational programs, veterinary care, habitat improvements, and opportunities that would otherwise be beyond reach. It allows people who believe wildlife matters to become part of something lasting.

When you support the Safari West Zoological Society, you are helping ensure that future generations can experience the wonder of standing eye-to-eye with a giraffe, hearing the call of a flamingo across the lake, watching a rhino calf take its first steps, or discovering that conservation begins with a single connection between people and animals.

Because protecting wildlife isn’t just about saving animals.

It’s about preserving hope, inspiring curiosity, and ensuring that places like Safari West continue to make a difference—for today’s visitors and tomorrow’s world.

Together, we can protect the future of Safari West.

Because every animal counts.

And every person who cares can make a difference.

What many people don’t realize is that those moments are part of something much larger.

For more than three decades, Safari West has connected people with wildlife in ways that inspire curiosity, understanding, and respect for the natural world. Every safari, overnight stay, animal encounter, and educational experience helps create a connection between people and animals—because conservation begins with caring, and caring begins with connection.

That connection has never been more important.

In a world where people are becoming increasingly disconnected from nature, Safari West provides an opportunity to slow down, experience wildlife up close, and gain a deeper appreciation for the animals that share our planet.

At the heart of those experiences are nearly 1,000 animals representing more than 80 species. They are cared for by an extraordinary team of Animal Care Givers, veterinarians, educators, and support staff who dedicate themselves each day to ensuring the animals thrive.

Their work extends far beyond what guests see during a visit. It includes specialized nutrition, enrichment programs, veterinary care, habitat maintenance, conservation efforts, and educational programs that reach people of all ages.

Today, through the Safari West Zoological Society, we are building upon that foundation by creating a nonprofit future for Safari West.

Our goal is simple: to ensure that the animals who call Safari West home continue to receive exceptional care, that future generations have opportunities to connect with wildlife, and that Safari West remains a place where conservation, education, and community come together.

Admissions, safaris, lodging, and guest experiences remain an important part of supporting that work. But charitable donations help us do even more. They help us expand educational opportunities, strengthen conservation efforts, enhance animal care programs, and continue sharing these remarkable animals with our community.

Most importantly, charitable donations help us build a lasting legacy—a future where the animals who call Safari West home continue to inspire, educate, and connect generations to come.

If Safari West has ever inspired you, taught you something new, brought your family closer together, or helped you feel a deeper connection to wildlife, we invite you to become part of that legacy.

As a nonprofit organization, donations now play an important role in helping us expand educational opportunities, strengthen conservation efforts, enhance animal care programs, and continue sharing these remarkable animals with our community.

Because every visit matters.

And every gift matters.

One of the ways we’ll be celebrating that future is through Celebrate Our Stars, our first fundraising event benefiting the Safari West Zoological Society.

On October 3, we will gather to honor the remarkable animals who inspire us every day, the dedicated Animal Care Givers who support them, and the future of Safari West itself.

We hope you’ll join us as we celebrate the animals, the mission, and the lasting impact we can make together.
